Wow,  you have shown tremendous courage.  You and your poor horse must have been through the mill over this.  I am truly humbled by the courage you have shown.  The bond you have with your horse is a very beautiful thing and I am glad to hear you are now enjoying each others company once more.  I really wish you both a long and happy relationship together.  Very many good wishes to you both

Lying in bed it took me a while to realise it hadn't been her fault but mine because I hadn't trained her to ignore those sounds.
After that I longed to get back to riding and I got better quite quickly. Going down to visit her when I came out of hospital was difficult but when she recognised me and nuzzled me I knew I'd ride again.
Three years later and I'm riding and loving every minute.....though I have now made sure she's trained to ignore the idiots who use a car horn to warn me they're coming.

I set up this site as a complete novice in all honesty but I reckon that if I can do this I will be able to make the dream a reality.  Rescuing horses and helping people a dream of a safe haven for equine and human in one place.  It is important to me to gain insight into other peoples views, experiences, stories funny or sad, so please do not hesitate to leave anything you feel you would like to add.  No matter how small every contribution is an important one, it is yours and you are important.

Wow you amazing person!  You and your poor horse!  It is humbling to me to hear the downright courage you have, as well as thinking it through from the horses eye view.  A sudden blaring car horn can make us jump out of our skins never mind a flight animal like the horse.  Your bravery, courage and bond with your horse is truly inspiring and I am thrilled you are recovering, eenjoying riding and being together again.  I wish you much joy together and send you many good wishes.

A noble aspiration indeed. I wish you every success in your mission to provide a safe haven for those in need of rescue and respite from today's ills. It's beyond my understanding how people can make animals suffer and treat each other so badly. Just as well there are still some people in the world like you.

Such peace and bliss in a gentle touch for both of us

If there is anyone out there who has any information or ideas about starting a rescue centre for horses or fields in Flintshire to rent, or anything that may help in getting my ideas off the ground I would love to hear from you.

I'm fortunate in that my wife cares so much for both people and animals. There are times that I feel without her support I would have fallen and I know she takes that level of support and commitment with her to the stables. No horse should feel alone, be neglected or suffer ill treatment if she is on the job. If I were able to financially suppport her venture into having a stable which dedicated itself to the rehabilitation of neglected animals and to the therapy for those who woulf benefit for contact with animals I would not hesitate because I know she cares so much.
If you have some land or have a horse that perhaps you can't be with all the time why not offer your local mental health team a chance to offer some therapy sessions to those in need. Your horse gets more company and those in need get the chance to start healing.

When I was about 10 years old, my cousin and would give Coca Cola to my pony, Buttons. We would put the bottle in her mouth, and she would turn it up and drink it all. My mom found out about it, and told us we were going to cause Buttons to have lots of cavities in her teeth. We were so worried that we took a toothbrush and toothpaste from the house and brushed Buttons teeth every day for a week until mom caught us and put a stop to it. It didn't seem to do any harm; and Buttons actually seemed to like it. When I think back and see us standing there brushing her teeth, I have to laugh!! Buttons was my first encounter with horses, and I guess she is the reason I love them so much!!

 

Horses like most other animals aren't creditted enough with a soul. I'm sure one exists as I'm sure they have a sense of humour to share with us. Pilgrim is beautiful and has a character to match.
Yes I think this is true, horses are very sensitive to emotions, moods and much more besides and that is having a soul as is showing affection.  Pilgrim was and always will be a kind, funny and loving boy and I miss him.  Tango now though will I am sure shine just as brightly, little things are starting to emerge as we get to know each other.
I'm sure that many of us have had experiences of the humour that animals display.  I'd love it if you shared them. If you put any funny stories under the comments section I'll transfer and display them on the comments page for all to share.
If you have experiences you'd like to share about horses, like times where you've had to gain their trust in order to train them, please feel free to share.In fact, just about anything that's clean and worth sharing. Anything I don't think suitable though will be edited.
