EAGALA is a global not for profit organisation it is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning and is about humans and horses working together to improve lives through learning, and importantly improving the mental health of individuals. This is so valuable in helping others, perhaps you would take a look? maybe even at the links I have further down as well?
Being accepted without having to explain yourself and have put into words how you feel and why can be so refreshing. Non verbal communication, peaceful, calm and quiet.....bliss, as well as learning new things http://eagala.org/UK
From my own experience, I can get up in the morning and wish I did not have to face another day and it's problems. What condition is my husband in? What do I have to sort out for dad?, how much washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning and shopping? My first sensation is the continual pain in my spine and neck, is it worse or am I just tired and exhusted from the pain? Quick where are the pain killers, oh God just one day without it would be lovely.
I have to get up as I am needed, I know I am loved and cannot afford this selfishness. Then a mental picture of Tango comes into my head and all I can think of is how much I love her and how, very adorably, she will allow me to groom her, pick her feet out and give her treats. She never barges me as she is not a dominant mare and is rather on the passive side, I believe my friend Penny when she tells me we are suited. We do belong together, when I take her to her field again her waiting for a scratch is a sign to me that confirms her choosing me as a companion. This makes loving her so passionately warming and heart rending. It also makes saying cheerio old girl so very hard when I have to leave her at the end of the day.
It would seem that this contact of loving and caring for horses is what makes it so theraputic, it can give you confidence, learn to share and work as a team, raise self worth to very great heights, learn about interacting and body language without words, heightens awareness and acceptable behaviour. A lot of therapy sites have huge lists of the benefits which is why I have listed some of the sites so that others could check them out.

It is said that the formation of a relationship with a horse can be transfered to every day life and human relationships, it is well worth looking at some of the programmes on these sites.

Horses that heal
http://www.horsesthatheal.org/
I really hope these will in some way encourage healing and help encourage someone to give it a go and have some contact with horses or at least explore the possibility. There are so many places and good people out there trying very hard to reach out to others, I am very impressed with their work and dedication, I deeply admire them and respect them, I wish them well. One day with any luck or help we will have it right here too. If anyone reading this is willing to advise or put forward any help to get this going, it would be very gratefully received.
